May 3, Houston: The big one -- the Inprint reading -- occurs at the Alley Theatre on Monday, May 3. Do not miss it or you'll be sorry. I'm not kidding -- I'm going to say the craziest, most intellectual yet hilarious stuff I can think of, and I'll be sharing the stage with the ultra sexy Oscar Casares, too.
June 24, Houston: I'm one of the peeps scheduled to read at Poison Pen, at Houston's famous Poison Girl bar. Besides me, everyone there will be ultra, *super* sexy. Come see me and drink!
June 26, Washington, DC: I'll be reading at the American Library Association conference. Come on down.
My other blog: Go read my the Houston Chronicle parenting blog (or my ChronMomBlog, as I like to call it) and make sure my kids won't resent me more than other kids resent their own parents.
Buy my new novel, Lone Star Legend. Already did? Well, buy a few more for your friends, then. :)

Hurricane AhoyThanks to everyone who's sending us good wishes to weather the storm. Yes, we're staying home. I think it'll be okay. Worst-case scenario, in my mind, is my neighbor's palm tree falling onto the roof of my garage. Or something flying into our patio doors and breaking them, but we cleared all debris from yard, so it should be okay.
I've been posting on Twitter, if anyone's interested. But, basically, all my Twitter posts summed up would say "Nothing's happening yet, and we're chilling and eating a bunch of food while we wait."
I would tell y'all the story of what happened at my dad's house during Hurricane Alicia, in 1983, but I'm too sugared up to type it legibly right now...
I will give y'all a link that Glark posted, though:
Prankster in a costume provides levity during a Hurricane Ike news report.
I'll report back here after the storm. Y'all have a good weekend, okay? 4:48 PM #

We're right here with you. Eating food, having a few drinks, waiting for it to blow through. We evacuated during Rita and wound up going ... well, right where Rita did. Seems smarter just to stay put.# posted by : 5:26 PM

We had no luck here in Ohio with the remnants of IKE.
Around 1:30 pm Sunday the 14th the wind began to blow and gusts up to nearly 90mph were recorded.
Trees uprooted and limbs broken out of tree tops all over the place.
The power went out around 1:45. Since we are on a well, no power also equals no water.
Most of southern Ohio was without power.
That means no gas stations, no grocery stores, no fast food, no Wal-mart, nothing at all open and selling goods.
There were small areas with electric and any stores in them were quickly cleaned out by the panic buyers.
Our power just came back on Saturday night around 6pm.
A deep freezer and two refrigerators worth of food completely ruined. No generator and no gasoline for one until maybe Wednesday.
A weeks vacation time wasted cleaning up and dealing with the mess. Two days of which were spent dragging limbs up to 6 inch dia and 30 feet long then cutting them up by hand with a bow saw.
Much cooking was done over the firepit. Perking coffee at 6am is GREAT on an open fire. Boiling water to do the dishes is even more fun than that!
We were lucky in that our next door neighbor has a swimming pool. That gave us free access to all the water we wanted to carry by the bucketful to enable flushing the toilet. Some people didn't have that luxury....
I know it sounds like I'm whining.
I realize other people near the coast have it much worse off than we did.
Hope you weathered the storm better than we did here!

I'm sorry that happened to you. Not having electricity is bad enough, but the water part SUX.
Lillie: Hope y'all made it through okay...
Pixie: Thank you. :)
