Things I've Recently Thought

I.

Here is a good way to label shared files:

2005 report wickets.doc
2005 report sprockets.doc
2006 report wickets.doc
2006 report cogs.doc

Here is an alternate way to label those same shared files:

wic.rep.doc
spr.DOC.doc
wick06.doc
COGGS.doc

I've been thinking that one of these methods is more efficient, in the long run, for your coworkers, than the other. Guess which one it is.

II.

I might have an undiagnosed brain disorder. I'm starting to think this because every time I create something that other people might see, I spend time thinking about how that work will look to other people. I try to see things from other people's points of view, and create/label/file things so that they're understandable from those points of view.

Now, however, I'm finally starting to realize that that's not normal. Most people I know don't do that.

Hence, something must be wrong with me. The only treatment for this, most likely, would be to segregate myself from normal society. If I were forcibly placed into an environment in which everyone else had the same disorder that I do, it's possible that, as a group, we could function and get along in this world. With support, love, and lots of prayer, I mean.

I'm willing to try it. Is there an environment like that out there? Will someone have me committed?

III.

In my past lives, I did many bad things. I realize this now.

Whatever I did, I apologize for it.

No, seriously - no more penance, you guys. I've learned my lesson. I'm sorry!

Hello?

God, Gwen.

I'm so there with you.

SO THERE WITH YOU.

Maybe we could commit each other?

I'm sorry Gwen,

Do you think you might be bi-polar?

That is a very popular diagnose now, and they have a lot of drugs avilible for it as well.

Of course with the right doctor I think we'd all be concidered mental ill, you know like in the whole human race?

oh no not bipolar! stay away from the bipolar drugs - they make your brain fuzzy.

*hugs*

Your "disorder" sounds kinda normal to me. Hmmm...this may possibly mean I have the same disease among others. Like obsessive compulsive and what about paranoia of formula busts in worksheets.

This comment has nothing to do with your post but I keep forgetting to send you an e-mail telling you this. I thought about you because I went to Payless and I found a really cool pair of shoes and the lady said, "these just came in 2 days ago." And that's when I thought, "That's what happens. The really cool shoes come in and then they're gone really fast." And guess how much I paid for them $17.99! That and I finally did a word count and page count of my book. I thought of you when I did that too. Weird I know.

I believe your condition is called, "GeniusFileusInOrderous."
It's a rare disease that affects the center cortex of the brain and causes the person to uncontrollably file things in an orderly and efficient manner that will render other users of the system completely competent. Although many others lack this ability (i.e. bosses, secretaries, partners), they find the filing system very useful even though they themselves cannot do it. The only treatment for this is to leave your job and find work elsewhere where your disease will be treated with dignity and a higher paycheck.

Gwen, this is maybe more a comment for your last post--when exactly is your birthday? Inquiring gift-givers want to know...

Okay. Not only do my files say things like:

Legal_Sign In 2006
Legal_Flyer January 2007
Legal_Protective Orders

Or

Span_Legal_Sign In 2006
Span_Legal_Flyer January 2007
Span_Legal_Protective Orders

And

Children_Group Sign In
Children_Confidentiality Agreement
Children_Consent for Services

But...

My shoe boxes also have poloroid pictures of what's inside.

I thought I had OCD, but I think I like to make life easier for myself. My desk is messy my house is not immaculate, but goddamit, please put the tape dispenser back on my desk, please return my scissors and whatever you do...leave my pens on my desk.

Shrinking Indigo: Yes. Or start a cult!

Jen: You are now a founding Cult Member.

Janice: Maybe.

Curvature: Thanks. I will. You saved me.

Miss Cathee: Ha. Right. That, plus a neurotic fear of being caught dead wearing inappropriate/ugly work attire.

Shoegirl: Aha. So now we just need to find out their new stock schedule.

Datty: I love you because you understand me so well.

Tina: I am going to email you. (It was on the 27th! I am 35 now!)

Letty: I aspire to have enough shoes for that system, and to be that organized when I do have them. And I miss you, too.
