How to Be Happy

Some people think you can be happy if you take anti-depressants. Some people think you can be happy if you read enough of the right books about how to do it. Some people think it's impossible to be happy because the world is a really crappy place.

I think it's possible to be happy, but only if you're honest with yourself about what you want. I've been thinking about it for a long time, and here's what I've decided it would take for me to be happy for more than 50% of the time.

1. If I had a little fur stole to wear. It doesn't have to be authentic, but it should be white, and very furry. And warm. And I should be able to wear it whenever I feel like it, whether I'm at work or in the mall or on the beach, without people commenting on its possible inappropriateness. Also, it might be nice if I could sometimes wear long gloves or some kind of animal ears with my stole.

2. If I could eat a lot of donuts without getting fat. I never eat donuts, even when they have really nice ones in the break room for free... and I'm still fat, anyway. But I can't ever eat donuts, or else I'll get even fatter, really fast. It would be nice if, for every donut I ate, I would lose one quarter of a pound, net. I think about that a lot, and I've decided that a quarter of a pound is the exact amount of weight I'd need to lose per donut in order to eat as many donuts as I want, but without losing so much weight that my skin gets loose. So... yeah. Donuts.

3. If I didn't have to work a day job.

4. Failing #3, if the music I play on my computer at my day job wouldn't cut out during my favorite songs.

Thank you. That's all. As you can see, it wouldn't take much.

I am totally with you on the eating donuts = losing weight thing. That would be magically delicious.

I think the donut-weight loss thing might be a little dangerous. Eating too many donuts will make you throw up (I know from experience!)

Also, these are my happiness tips:
1. Sometimes, I just think, "It is time for being happy!" It kind of works, honestly. Not if you're really sad or anything, but if you're just kind of even keel...
2. I read short stories on the internet that people write about boys falling in love with each other. They're usually really gooey and cute and take about 15 minutes to read, and then I feel really, really giddy. (It's honestly a little weird, because it doesn't account for the fact that I don't get sad that no boys are falling in love with me and it wouldn't be like in those stories anyway. They're just cute stories. And I like them.)
3. I have a few webcomics bookmarked. When I get bored or run down during the day, I go read one and laugh. http://www.scarygoround.com/ is my favorite.

jeffytown, where do you find these short stories about boys falling in love with each other?

Hi Gwen,

Of course your not happy--you think too much!

I think people who are happiest don't think too much! Or Worry about anything! Ya know like blonds do!

So to be happy is to do like a blond, also don't think, and don't worry.

Janice!

Calista,

Just google "slash" and the names of the two boys you want to read about falling in love. People write about tons of characters from TV shows and books. Stick to the PG-13 ones, because they are usually the cute ones...

Oh I eat the donuts!! I'd give up other gooey good things just to get donuts in me, I have a penchent for donuts daily. when I was pregnant I'd weep for donuts and finally my boss kept little 'gems' those little packages of donuts in her drawer for me to shut me up and my sis in law went and got me a huge assed box of donuts one day because I had a craving. I dream about that big pink box of donuts sometimes.
I LOVE donuts and I eat them even if they dont let me loose a quarter of a pound each time I eat them.............. I'd DISAPPEAR!! hah!!
Ahhhh, now I want donuts!!!

Janice, thems is fightin words unless you is blonde too!!!
*sigh*

I do TOO think too much and I'm blonde!

Being happy actually is a state of mind. I'm learning this as I go about life that people actually are more in control of their own happiness than you think. You can also make yourself happy and I love the list of things to make you happy Gwenn. I think though in this day and age you will have to enjoy your fur stole in your own home/car cuz wowzers! that is just taking a risk wearing a real fur stole anywhere in public today.

I bought myself a bright pink boa and wore that for 2 years and it did honest to god put me in a better mood JUST looking at it in my closet!!!

CJ: Donuts are heroin, that's why.

Drew: HA!

Jeffy: How many did you eat before you threw up? (And, yes, slash fic rules. My old faves were Mulder and Krychek.)

Janice: I'm actually pretty happy most of the time. As long as I'm not thinking, I mean. Which isn't a problem, now that I have highlights.

Pixie: Aren't you married, though? I think it's okay to eat donuts if you're married. As long as you eat them with your spouse.

Also, re your boa: I'm totally with you on that. I have a couple of boas, and a couple of tiaras, and a few pairs of long gloves, and a pair of animal ears. It does make me happy to see those. Same with my Hello Kitty and other Japanese character stuff.

Sorry Pixie, I ment no offence.

And I'm a red head, but occstionally I put blond highlights in my hair does that count?

Gwen,

A friend and I were racing to see who could eat a dozen hot Krispy Kreme's fastest. Eight minutes meant that I won, but it was a rather Pyrrhic victory...
