Something is wrong with my home computers.

I can connect to Blogger, but not to gwenworld.com. I can't retrieve my Hotmail emails. I can connect to Yahoo, but not to Google.

I spent a few hours on the phone with the Filipino tech support guy, and then another hour with Tier Two Tech Support (a guy in Dallas). And no luck. They said it must be on my end. I don't see how. But I did a system restore, just in case. It didn't work.

So... I don't know. If you've ever had (and solved) this problem, let me know. I won't see your comments or emails until Monday, when I get to work. But know that they will be appreciated in advance.

I had a similar problem recently. Here;s what worked: I ran chkdsk 4 or 5 times, and on the last time it took forever because it was repairing bad blocks and sectors on my hard disk.
Click Start, Run, then type in cmd
Hit OK
Type in chkdsk/f, then hit enter.
It will probably tell you that it can't do it till restart, and then ask you if you want it to do it at restart. Type y, enter, and restart. It took me several frustrating times, but it finally worked. Sorry that this was so wordy, and if you already tried this and are saying "duh, Anne, who doesn't know about chkdsk?" I just figured it out for myself and felt all smart. Gah! Shutting up now.

click start, then run
enter "cmd"
tracert www.google.com

This should show you the path between your computer and the computer you're trying to connect to. So if it fails somewhere before where you're trying to get to, that's probably where the problem is. You can double check by trying this with a site you know you can get to.

Don't forget the obvious which is to go into your Internet Options, Privacy Tab, Sites button and make sure that these sites were not somehow blocked (can anyone say worm? virus? trojan horse?).

I would add in these sites to the "Allow" list and do a scan with something like AdSense. It sounds like something got in and blocked out the sites in your history or favorites folder. I suggest getting BHO Demon. It strips away the shit that attaches itself to your web browser.

Good luck.

Thanks, you guys.

I did the allowed sites, but not yet the tracert or chdsk. Thank you for your suggestions!

When I have this problem I turn off my router, my cable modem, and my computer and then turn them on again in the same order
